About Scott |
|
b.
1963, Landscape artist Scott Boyle recreates a sense of place and emotion,
with shapes, color, texture, and balance. He strives to capture the
harmony and essence of beauty in the world around us representing familiar
vistas in North Carolina and beyond. Scott says he finds North Carolina is
one of his favorite states, full of beauty and mystery to be explored by
the outdoor landscape painter. He spends much of his effort doing just
that.
At an early age Scott was recognized to have an unusual ability to draw
and his parents seized the opportunity by providing private art lessons at
the early age of seven. He was fortunate to have been influenced by a rich
heritage of traditional Indiana painters from Beech Grove. By the time he
was sixteen, he had won over four-dozen awards and sold sixty-five oil
paintings.
During that time Scott had one eye on the sky with a great
interest in aviation. Later he attended Indiana State University,
graduating in 1984 to become a pilot. Today he still flies part-time often
using his travels to paint and study from other locations as well as
visiting Art Museums whenever possible.
His passion in art is painting
outdoors from life, commonly
known as
plein air painting. Painting plein air helps the artist to
see the color of light upon objects and it gives him opportunity study the
quickly changing moods of light upon the landscape. This is what the
camera can never do. That is why he helps to organize painting trips
once a month for artist in the area as well as teaching art workshops.

Scott makes his home in rural Gaston County,
North Carolina, with his wife, Esther, and their five children.

“I consider myself a visual explorer of the
effects of light upon the landscape. With my paints I want to
capture the essence of beauty in nature as we experience it in this life, creating
with paint the temperamental effects of light on the world around us. This
is an enormous challenge as most of my paintings are produced plein air
(or outdoors). Being there in person in the face of nature has a way of
keeping me honest and growing as a representational artist. When a plein
air painting is successful, it will sometimes become the inspiration for a
larger studio work. Creating paintings in the studio allows me the time to
further develop the ideas which were initially born outdoors. Working
indoors also gives me a controlled environment to bring a painting
to a level of finish through many layers of paint
and textures which creates a rich depth, mystery and intrigue as in nature.
Some of my inspiration comes from landscape painters of the 19th and 20th
centuries. I spend considerable time reading as well as visiting art
museums throughout the United States. Being inspired by works that
successfully capture the fleeting effects of light, some of my favorite
artists are: Sir George Clausen, Isaac Levitan, Ilya Repin, Winslow Homer, George
Inness, Frits Thaulow, Claude Monet, Henry O Tanner, Edgar Payne, Clyde
Aspevig, and T. Allen Lawson.
Life as a painter is an endless challenge to explore the world visually;
my passion is for the one who created it and that my work might bring
glory to God.”
