Inspiration

Psalm 19:1-3

The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament showeth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge.

Psalm 19 is one of my favorite chapters of the Bible, for it causes me, as an artist, to think about some deep and marvelous things. Foundationally the whole chapter is speaking about light. For the heavens would declare no glory if there was no light. Did you know the sky is not blue at all? It has no color of its own. Only when sunlight filters through our atmosphere (firmament) do we see the results of the bending of light rays which, depending on angle, moisture, and clouds, can produce every hue of color and tone imaginable. For color can only come from the bending of light.

Recently I came across this video "The Unseen Sea" by Simon Christen.  Actually it is not a video but thousands of photographs which he stitched together  When I watch this, I see God all over it.  Not that Nature is God, but the heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows his handiwork.  Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night showeth knowledge!  It makes me also think how God said, He created man in His image.  Not that we look like God, but in essence we are creators like God is a creator.  Obviously we see man is different from all the other animals and is always creating something new and better.  You don't see man at the start of this video but as it turns to night you see his activity as he shines little lights like God shines His big lights!  Just think of the creativity of the artist who put this video together.  This was no monkey trick for sure. This was Simon Christen's response to God's beauty.  We all must respond to it; some hike, some fish, some ride motorcycles, and some paint paintings.
