4. Why should try to paint out doors?

Most all great painters of past and today have spent considerable time studying from life and for the landscape painter that means going outside.  I personally find plein air painting exhilarating in many ways.  It inspires me to a deeper level as an artist.  it is forcing me to be technically more efficient as a painter. (faster with fewer brush strokes)  It helps me to see and understand my own personal artist vision. It help me to understand the nature of light. And it helps me to appreciate weather conditions and mood of the scene which is more authentically translated to my canvas  Is it hard to paint outdoors?  In the beginning it is quite overwhelming but it gets a little bit easier with each attempt and the rewards are beyond measure!

5. What type of equipment should I bring to paint outdoors?

It can be as simple as a lawn chair, paper, pencil, sun hat and bug spray.  I personally use an

Open Box M easel with a camera tripod with all the accessories.  The best way to learn about equipment is to come and see what other artists are using.

6. Is this an plein air workshop?

No.  It is simply a time for artists to paint outdoors together, to learn from each other and to facilitate a community spirit among local artists.

7. Do you teach plein air workshops?

Yes, Visit my workshop link on my website for the latest information.

8. What if I have never painted outdoors or am a beginner?

I strongly encourage you to come anyway.  Come, watch, and ask questions.  Try sketching with charcoal or pencil.  Enjoy the outdoors with other artists who struggle to create!

9. Why are you holding these free paint outs?  What's the catch?

I personally have gained so much as an artist by painting plein air. It  continues to be a growing passion and inspiration for me.  My desire is to create a movement among artists in the state of North Carolina that they might discover what I have discovered about painting plein air.  I want to expose artists to this experience.  There is also the benefit of learning from one another and a great time to be had by all.  This is a great opportunity for the beginner just to come check it out and experiment with no cost involved.  And for the seasoned artist who is a tired of painting alone.    I'm not trying to sell anything.  I just want to share a blessing.  Come out and catch the excitement!
